One of our favorite places to visit. Rome, Italy’s capital, is a sprawling, cosmopolitan city with nearly 3,000 years of globally influential art, architecture and culture on display. Ancient ruins such as the Forum and the Colosseum evoke the power of the former Roman Empire. Vatican City, headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church, has St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums, which house masterpieces such as Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel frescoes.
We have been there twice and have plans to do it again. Each time we gave it only 4 days which included trips to Florence and Pisa but as there is so much to see we would recommend doing at least 5 days in Rome and 8 days if you wish to go outside the city. You will not be disappointed with Italy. Some cruise lines include Italy on their itinerary and would suggest adding a 4 day pre or post stay in Rome as part of your trip.
We suggest to do your pre-planning before you go. Book your itinerary online to see the sights you wish to see. Plan your hotel stay that is convenient to your itinerary plans and have a good pair of walking shoes. Certain times of the year are better then others so plan your trip accordingly.
